Pigmentation & sun damage
Melasma, sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — addressed gently.
What it is
Hyperpigmentation includes freckles, age spots, sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and melasma. When skin receives excessive UV exposure, melanocytes — the cells responsible for pigment production — become hyperactive and produce excess melanin.
Pigmentation is categorised by depth: epidermal (superficial), dermal (deep), or mixed. The right protocol depends on which layer you are treating. Aggressive resurfacing on dermal pigment often makes it worse. We start gentle — and combine in-clinic protocols with a homecare regimen.
Why it happens
- —Cumulative sun damage and UV exposure
- —Hormonal triggers — pregnancy, oral contraceptives (melasma)
- —Skin trauma — post-acne, post-procedure
- —Genetics and skin type predisposition
